Mohammad Maruf Hasan is a development professional with more than two decades of experience. He started his career in government service and then worked in various multilaterals in Bangladesh and abroad before he moved to BRAC. He holds an MBA and post-graduation in Population Sciences and Sustainable Development Studies.
Social security programmes in Bangladesh date back to the 1970s, but continue to be plagued by errors, including a failure to reach those who need it the most. Today, we must look beyond cash allowances and focus on lowering dependency on such programmes.
