Girls of today are the future for tomorrow. Positive change for development will only be possible if we can empower girls by providing enough skills, education and security as well as by creating a conducive environment. BRAC has long been working for social inclusiveness for deprived people and empowerment of the poor within a broader area.

Girls of today are the future for tomorrow. Positive change for development will only be possible if we can empower girls by providing enough skills, education and security as well as by creating a conducive environment. BRAC has long been working for social inclusiveness for deprived people and empowerment of the poor within a broader area. BRAC has special programs targeting girls and adolescents to incorporate them in the mainstream of development.

We want our girls to grow up free from all kinds of discrimination and violence and pave the way to their full security, nutrition and overall empowerment in all stages of life. It is a matter of concern for us that early marriage and sexual harassment have become the major impediments in the way forward for the girls in our society. Recently, violence against girls and women, sexual harassment and early marriage has increased alarmingly in our country. As a result, natural growth and human rights of girls are being violated badly. Under this very circumstance, BRAC has decided to observe the International Women’s Day 2012 with the slogan and commitment “The end of early marriage and sexual harassment is possible in one generation.”

We do believe that if we can make people aware, irrespective of class, sex and profession, against any kind of violence against girls and early marriage we will easily be able eradicate this social disease. We are committed to work together to create a social movement that will ultimately help offer a society free from early marriage, discrimination and violence agains girls.

Let us pledge on this International Women’s Day:

  • We will not commit any kind of violence or tolerate such offences, and we will protest against violence;
  • We will keep our family and workplace free from any kind of harassment and violence;
  • Early Marriage is an unethical act and a social crime, and we will protest and prevent it by any means.

I’m interestd to know the activities of BRAC; as being a Disability Retired officer of the Government of Bangladesh;like BRAC, I’m also working for very poor children of my birth place. My teaching fascility is of very small scale, indeed! But my aim is to admit these children in BRAC running school and monitor their education quality.
